Apple has just released a security update (Mac Security Update 2011-003) in response to the MacDefender malware that will now self-update new malware definitions to fight against future outbreaks of harmful software infections. The security update is a small download (2.1MB) that adds not only a definition for the MacDefender malware, but allows the xprotect.plist
The latest piece of Mac OS X malware, MACDefender, has brought to light the fact that the Mac is not invincible to viruses or malware, well sort of. If you find yourself installing something you’re not familiar with and it asks for your password, stop there and quit the application. It may be obvious to most, but clearly many people can’t grasp that concept.
